The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is to launch its new standards on 19 October.
The new standards retain the main concepts and disclosures from the G4 guidelines, but have clearer language and a new modular structure, which will be easier to update, the independent standards organisation said. The new structure consists of three universal standards, applicable to all organisations, and 33 topic-specific benchmarks covering economic, environmental and social issues.
The draft standards were approved by the GRI’s global sustainability standards board in late August and confirmed by a due process committee last week.
GRI sustainability reporting standards are used by more than 5,000 organisations across 90 countries, according to the organisation.
