The European Commission has published the EU Construction and Demolition Waste Protocol (bit.ly/2g9EdXG).
The non-binding guidelines for industry aim to increase confidence in the construction and demolition waste management process and trust in the quality of recycled materials.
The protocol was developed with input from key stakeholders, including: renovation companies and demolition contractors; construction product manufacturers; waste treatment firms; recycling companies; and local authorities. Construction and demolition work produces the largest waste stream in the EU by volume.
Under the Waste Framework Directive 2008/98/EC, 70% of construction and demolition waste in Europe should be recycled by 2020.
